My problem with makeup was ‘how do I store all this stuff without it getting damaged or mucky?’. At first I just dumped all my makeup into one pink plastic tub, but I found it really hard to find the product I needed. I asked the most amazing makeup artist Melanie Inglessis (@melaniemakeup on twitter) what she does about storing her makeup. She tweeted back saying ‘Just get storage to fit your needs and label!’, so that’s exactly what I did. I bought the Samla Box - £1.00/$1.49 from Ikea - and sorted all my makeup into it. It’s so much cheaper than buying an expensive Vanity Case or acrylic organiser. I got some help putting up a few white shelves and now I can reach them easily and I know where everything is.
My alternative for a jewellery hanger is to buy a few cute vintage hooks and hang them on a nail in the wall! It looks so chic, and you can put up as many as you want. These hooks cost me around £1.00-£2.00 from different shops. My final storage idea is earrings in contact lens cases! Wait. What? No, I’m not joking! Contact lens cases are perfect to carry your earrings, they stack up easily and look cute - especially if they’re owls. The cases are also great for travelling, you can put them in your suitcase or handbag and they don’t get lost or take up a lot of room.
